Since 1956, the Cork Film Festival has attempted to "bring to Irish audiences the best in world cinema
in all its variety; championing the art of the short film through its competitive section and providing a
forum for experimental film." As a result, the Festival has grown very considerably in reputation over
the years. Each year there's a "shorts" competition prize, usually one of the largest in Europe. Screenings
take place at Cork Opera House, Kino Cinema, Gate Cinema and Triskel Arts Centre.
'Inside I'm Dancing' the award-winning film from Irish director Damien O'Donnell, is to be the opening night
gala film at this year's Festival. The film recently won the prestigious Audience Award at the Edinburgh
Film Festival. The Cork screening, on Sunday 10 October at the Cork Opera House, will be the Irish premiere.

Cork Guinness Jazz Festival
22nd - 25th October
Renowned as Europe's friendliest Jazz Festival, the event has hosted many of the jazz 'greats' in
its 26 year history. This year some 1,000 musicians from 25 countries will entertain the fans in over
75 venues citywide. The main concert venues are the Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork Opera House and the
Triskel Arts Centre. The famous Guinness Festival Club at the Gresham Metropole Hotel offers world class
jazz on five stages day and night (daytime sessions have free admission) while the easy to find Guinness
Jazz Trail offers entertainment in over 40 excellent pubs and clubs, most of it free of charge.
