WEST CORK'S FAVOURITES
Water Sports & Activities 2001
In June, we asked our viewers to nominate their favourite Water Sports & Activities.
Congratulations to Therese Cantwell, the winner of our draw for a side of
Ummera Smoked Wild Irish Salmon. www.ummera.com
| FERRY & BOAT RIDES
Even if you don't have your own boat, there are many ways to get out on the water -
ferries to the many islands off the coast or charter boats. In fact, because such
journeys are a big highlight of our area, we list most on our
ATTRACTIONS page! Take in the beautiful scenery and maybe spot seals,
dolphins or whales.
Bere Island - Murphy's Ferry Service
Cape Clear Island - West Cork Coastal Cruises
Kinsale - Sail Ireland Charters
One viewer suggests the ferry to Garnish Island, Glengarriff. "Great fun! For all the family."
(You'll probably get to see the seals lying on the rocks taking in the sun.)

so many kinds of fish - salmon, trout, bass, mackerel, pollack, cod...

One visitor's favourite activity is salmon and trout fishing. "It is the most relaxing
activity you can do, also stress free, you can see all the beauty of the river banks and
the added bonus of bringing a fish home, if you're lucky."

| SAILING
There are many sailing clubs located across West Cork and in summer there
is a regatta just about every weekend.
See our directory of WATER SPORTS for information on clubs, instruction and regattas.
One visitor is involved with Disabled Sailing. "The amount of satisfaction I get when I
see the disabled abandoning their chairs and canes to enjoy the freedom of sailing is
immeasurable."

| SWIMMING
Swimming is a great activity for all ages. Whether you prefer a pool
or a beach; lessons, competition or splashing about; there are many places to swim in West Cork.
West Cork is home to many other lovely beaches, lakes, leisure centres and public pools.
The Blue Flag beaches are: Barleycove (Crookhaven), Garrylucas (Old Head of Kinsale),
Inchydoney (Clonakilty), Owenahincha (Rosscarbery), Tragumna and Warren (Rosscarbery).
One viewer specifically nominated swimming off the Warren Strand. Another viewer
suggests the kids' swimming classes at the
Celtic Ross Leisure Centre.
"Great Instruction by Sinead, great fun for the kids, good way for kids to make friends, and
most importantly a great gift for life."

summer's Irish Water Safety Program) and directory of
