BantryBantry House & GardensMr. & Mrs. Egerton Shelswell-WhiteBantry, County Cork IrelandExtending to 45 acres in total on the edge of Bantry Bay, the gardens and grounds are a wonderful mix of formal and informal. Arranged over seven terraces, highlights include the Italianate garden with its formal yew and box hedging and elevated ancient Wisteria Circle. Rising from this garden is the famed 'Hundred Steps', from the top of which there are stunning views over the gardens, House, Bantry Bay and beyond to the Caha mountains in Kerry. On the front lawn are 14 round beds with the House forming an impresssive backdrop. Elsewhere in the garden, visitors can stroll up to the walled garden (under restoration) with its ancient apple trees, and the beginnings of a vegetable garden.

Cois CuianBob & Mary WalshKilcrohane, Bantry, County Cork IrelandThis garden of 2 acres is entirely within 30 metres of the sea. It contains many rare plants from the Southern Hemisphere as well as salt and wind resisting plants. It has featured on many T.V. gardening programmes and many magazines - Irish and European. OPEN: During Garden Trail only - Open Friday to Tuesday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Closed Wednesdays & Thursdays. Other times by appointment only. |
